Booker T. Washington Center holds Empowerment Expo

The Booker T. Washington Center will be celebrating its 99th year by holding an Empowerment Expo July 17-19.

The celebration will begin on Friday, July 17 with the kick off at 5 p.m. with the Mayor, Alder Women and Minister in attendance.

Immediately following kick off will be the presentation of king and queen at 5:30 p.m., followed by band music from 6-7 p.m., new school DJ from 7:15-7:45 p.m. and closing out with old school music from 8-8:50 p.m.

Saturday will feature sporting events from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. including a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, soccer, dodgeball, kickball, street hockey, chess, dominoes, checkers and cheerleading.

Following the sporting events on Saturday will be contests such as a “Sport That Hat” contest, barbecue cook off, cobbler cook off, four layer cake cook off, dance contest and Booker Washington look a like contest.

Sunday will begin with an opening prayer from 1:50-2 p.m., followed by presentations to ministers from 2-3 p.m., praise dance from 3-4 p.m., choirs & music from 4-7 p.m. and closing with thank you’s from 7-8 p.m.
