Classic Cinemas and the Stephenson County Convention and Tourist Bureau have partnered to present the upcoming 2015 Spencer Tracy Film Series, slated for August 21-23, at the Lindo Theatre, located at 115 S. Chicago Ave. in Freeport.
Spencer Tracy spent a good part of his youth in Freeport where both of his parents were born and are buried.
Crowned with back-to-back Best Actor Oscars, Tracy was an acclaimed stage and screen actor during the “Golden Age” of Hollywood.
Nominated nine times by The Academy for his prolific and natural acting style, Tracy was regarded as one of Hollywood’s greatest actors.
Since the beginning of his career in 1922, Tracy appeared in more than 70 full length films and worked with countless other Hollywood legends such as Katherine Hepburn, Clark Gable and Mickey Rooney.
The first film in the series, San Francisco (1936), will be presented on August 21 at 7 p.m. with tickets available for $5 per person at the Lindo Theatre box office or online at classiccinemas.com.
On Saturday, August 22 Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (1941) will be shown at 1 p.m., followed by Without Love (1945) at 7 p.m. and Father of the Bride (1950) on Sunday, August 23 at 1 p.m.
Ed Finch and Alan Wenzel will present a brief introduction before each film and lead a discussion afterward.

There will be a pre-festival reception on Friday, August 21 at 5 p.m. at Freeport’s Winneshiek Theatre, 228 W. Clark St.
Tim Connors will portray Tracy as he is interviewed on the program Inside the Actor’s Stage.
The event includes hors d’oeuvres, wine, coffee and tea.
