North End City Market celebrates Farmers Market Week
In celebration of National Farmers Market Week August 2-8, The North End City Market at the North Main & Auburn Roundabout has several special activities planned for Saturday.
Mayor Morrissey will present a proclamation at 10 a.m.
There will be special activities for kids including fruit and vegetable art offered.
The Soft Shoe Shufflers will be performing from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
All visitors will get a chance to register to win a North End City Market gift basket with lots of wonderful produce and items.
“We are pleased to celebrate Farmers Market Week which recognizes the role that farmers markets play in connecting local farmers and consumers for a variety of fresh, affordable, and healthful products,” said Peter Provenzano, Chairman of Rock River Development Partnership, the organization that manages the North End City Market.
A variety of produce is now in season, including the first apples and plums of the year, sweet corn, tomatoes, squash, berries, Michigan peaches, beans, kale, beets and lettuce.
The market also offers eggs, cheese, honey, fresh flowers, baked goods, coffee, scones, filled cookies, barbecue and Italian breads and sandwiches.
