Thursday, August 20 will be the 21st celebration of the birth of Miracle the white buffalo calf.
Miracle was born on the Heider farm on the morning of August 20, 1994 and she is considered to be the first white buffalo calf born since 1933.
More than 500,000 people came to see Miracle from all over the world including the Dalai Lama.
This is one of many reasons Miracle and this property has national historic significance.
Heider Farm is located on The Rock River Trail as the Rock River borders to the west.
The museum on Heider Farm has several gifts including the original fence with all the prayers and gifts left on it.
Miracle had fulfilled a native prophecy and is considered a symbol of peace.
The Heider Farm was also told that the calf would turn color three more times with the color changes going from white to black to red and then to yellow.
As told Miracle did change to black in January, 1995 then red in June, 1995 and finally to yellow in November, 1995 fulfilling the prophecy to represent the four colors of man.
The prophecy said the she would eventually turn back to a white female buffalo.
Miracle has had four offspring, Millennium born May 27, 1998; Lady Miracle born August 18, 2000; Mitakuye Oyasin bornAugust 6, 2002 and Miracle 4 born September 9,2003.
There have been two more white buffaloes also born on the farm and their names are Fulfillment, a female white buffalo calf, and Miracle’s Second Chance, a male buffalo calf.
Black and red buffalo calves have been born on Heider Farm also.
At one time in North America all four colors of buffalo roamed here.
Miracle died on September 19, 2004 just after her 10th birthday.
On Thursday, August 20 there will be a celebration marking the 21st anniversary of the birth of Miracle.
The public is free to come help in this celebration anytime from 10 a.m-4 p.m. at Heider Farm, 2739 South River Road, in Janesville, Wisconsin 53546.
