Winnebago County Animal Services hosts blood drive

Staff Report

Winnebago County Animal Services (WCAS) is partnering with the Rock River Valley Blood Center by hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, September 1.

The blood drive will take place from 1-5 p.m. in the blood center’s mobile bus located in the parking lot of Winnebago County Animal Services and walk-ins are welcome.

Animal Services is offering a special promotion for anyone who donates or attempts to donate blood.

Once the donation is complete each person will receive a coupon for half off the adoption fee of any cat or dog.

The guidelines for this promotion are as follows: cat or dog must be one year and older, limit one coupon per household and the coupon will expire within six months of donation.

According to the Rock River Valley Blood Center donating blood can enhance the lives of up to three people and can save up to 4.5 million American lives by blood transfusions.

“Adopting a shelter animal positively impacts the animal’s life, as well as the new pet owner’s life,” said Donna Apgar, Adoption Coordinator of Animal Services. “We hope to see a large number of donors and adoptions at this event and together we can save more than one life on Tuesday!”

Visit WCAS at 4517 N. Main St. in Rockford to donate and adopt a new furry friend.
