Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful accepting CDs for art project

Staff Report

Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Recycle Centers will be accepting CDs and DVDs through the end of August to become part of a Rockford Area Arts Council community art project.

The discs are not usually accepted at the Recycle Centers in Rockford and Roscoe.

“In support of the Madison Street art project, Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful will accept CDs, with or without jewel cases, at our Rockford Recycle Center on Tuesday afternoons, August 18 and 25, and at either Rockford or Roscoe on Saturday mornings, August 22 and 29,” said Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Executive Director Lori Gummow. “We’ve been told that this community art project needs 10,000 CDs, so we welcome residents to drop them off while donating their other recyclables,” Gummow said.

The Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful volunteer-run Recycle Centers are located at 4665 Hydraulic Road, Rockford (Tuesdays 2-5 p.m. and 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturdays) and 13125 North 2nd Street, Roscoe (9 a.m.-12 p.m., Saturdays only).

Other items accepted at the free drop-offs include cardboard, paper, #1 and #2 plastic bottles, glass bottles, metal of any kind, electronics except televisions or computer monitors, and clothing.

For details and volunteer registration visit knib.org or call 815-637-1343.

The Rockford Area Arts Council will also accept CDs or DVDs at its office, 713 East State Street, Rockford, during weekday business hours.
