The Rockford Aviators qualified for this year’s Frontier League playoffs, finishing the campaign at 49-47.
The Aviators nicked the final playoff spot and will travel to face the Traverse City Beach Bums in the 1-game first round playoff at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday.
The squad played its final regular season game at Joliet on Sunday, turning in a gutsy performance before ultimately falling to Joliet by a final of 4-3 in 12 innings. Tony Rizzotti struck out nine over 7.2 pitched. The Aves got RBIs from Devon Rodriguez and Anthony Renteria but ultimately fell just short in their quest for their 50th win.
The Aviators finished 5-1 against Traverse City in the regular season and were 2-1 at Wuerfel Park. The Beach Bums finished the season with a record of 56-38.
The winner of the 1-game playoff will face off against the Southern Illinois Miners in a 3-game set starting on Thursday.
