City of Rockford holds community and economic development public hearings

Staff Report

The City of Rockford will hold a public hearing at two different locations for interested citizens, groups and organizations. The purpose of the hearings is to present the 2016 Draft Annual Plan Update of the 2015 – 2019 Consolidated Plan.

The Consolidated Plan Annual Update satisfies the minimum statutory requirements for three federal formula programs: the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) and the Emergency Solutions Grants Program (ESG). The overall goal of these programs is to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanding economic opportunities principally for low- and moderate-income persons.

The public hearing will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Rockford Public Library Auditorium, 215 North Wyman Street (entrance on Mulberry St.). For those who cannot attend the first hearing, the information will be made available once again with an opportunity for the public to share comments at 1 p.m. on Friday at Katie’s Cup, 502 Seventh Street. Both sessions will cover the same information. Interested participants only need to attend one session.

The hearings will be accessible to persons with disabilities, upon request. Individuals with disabilities planning to attend and needing special accommodations should contact by letter or telephone, the Neighborhood Development Division, Community and Economic Development Department, 425 East State Street, Rockford, Illinois 61104, 779-348-7162 to make notice of their anticipated needs by Wednesday.
