Rock River Sweep offering prizes for volunteers

Prizes are being awarded for biggest pick up crew, largest amount of garbage, dirtiest picker upper, weirdest costume, oldest item, weirdest item, biggest item, largest distance traveled to participate.
More than $2,000 of prizes are being awarded from the Rockford Art Museum, District Restaurant, JR Kortman’s, Backyard Bar & Grill, Anderson Awning, Tads Bar & Grill, Rockford Brewing Company, Greenwich Village Art Fair, WNIJ/WNIU, Rockford Music Academy, Rockford Art Deli, Apex Roofing, lots of great prizes from the Rockford Park District.
We will also have fun and different prizes, like a huge wooden bear worth $300 donated by Herbert Wuerfel; hovercraft rides donated by Universal Hovercraft; several autographed copies of Nels Akerlund’s book, “Our Rock River”; several autographed copies to give away from CNN’s Hero of the Year 2014, Living Lands and Water’s Chad Pregracke’s book “From the Bottom Up: One Man’s Crusade to Clean America’s Rivers”.
RVC Reiki Master and Instructor Richard Gubbe has donated 2 free Reiki treatments valued at $65 each.

If any individual, organization or business would like to contribute prizes to be given away to Rock River sweepers tomorrow, please drop those prizes off at The Rock River Times, 128 North Church Street by 5:30 p.m. today. Those contributions will be recognized on the events page, our Facebook page, our website and in next week’s paper.
