A case of whooping cough has been confirmed at Auburn High School according to a letter sent by Rockford Public Schools to parents of students.
RPS 205 issued a letter, dated Friday, Sept. 11, stating that one case of pertussis had been identified and that the student was no longer in school. It also warned that even if a student had been vaccinated in the past, they still may be at risk for the disease now due to the breakdown of immunity over time.
Symptoms include a runny nose, low-grade fever, sneezing and coughing, generally increasing throughout the night.
RPS 205 also sent letters to parents at West View Elementary and West Middle schools warning of possible cases of the disease.
Parents can call RPS Health Services, 815-966-5254, or the Winnebago County Health Department, 815-720-4050, with any questions.
