The Rockford Area Arts Council is excited to be kicking off RAAC ArtScene weekend with a celebration of the arts. This year RAAC’s fundraiser is following a new format. Scene Peek is Thursday, October 1 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main St. RAAC will celebrate the arts with performances, artwork, appetizers and a cash bar. The goal of the event is to engage with our supporters and have fun. Funds raised from this event will go to support the efforts of RAAC to bring the arts to everyone.

Performances will include members of the ArtsPlace teams.

Pena Broman, lead artist of the performing arts team, Cha Cha Ephect, will take the stage with a unique blend of sound, movement, visual, drama and the written word. Meghan Baylor and Isaiah Davis will lead members of the Dance Team.

Rebekah Smith, of Keith Country Day School, was this year’s Mayor’s Arts Award recipient and will be performing as well. Smith is a worthy recipient as she excels in visual arts, choir and theater.

We know the power the arts have when transforming a community and RAAC and Transform Rockford want to hear your ideas. There will be boards in the lobby of Veterans Memorial Hall where you can tell us your thoughts on the subject and what inspires you.

“The arts are such an important part of any vibrant community. The Rockford Area Arts Council’s, Spring and Fall ArtScenes, are a wonderful example of the artistic talent we have in our region. RAAC ArtScene has become a “favorite” transforming event in our community for people to gather and experience how art can inspire and connect us; a true example of diverse forms of creative expression,” said Patrick O’Keefe, Transform Rockford.

Attendees will also have a chance to paint a CD for our “Off the Chain Link,” project. The CD mural is underway on Madison street and we would love for you to be a contributing artist to our own “Scene Peek Tree,” which will be added to the existing work over ArtScene weekend.

CNVR (Conveyer), 317 W. Jefferson, is mounting “MEANINGLESS Art Show,” to encourage everyone to create a piece of art, to overcome their fear of facing the proverbial blank canvas. Pablo Korona is accepting submissions through September 30 and work will be up for Scene Peek, at CNVR from 6 to 8 p.m. Work can include photography, sculpture, repurposed objects, whatever your imagination leads you to create. The space will also include work by Dave Decastris, Joe Downey, Paul Dyer, Jeremy Klonicki and Pablo Korona. The green space in front of 304 North Main, adjacent to CNVR will also be transformed into an interactive creative space where you can write on the “Before I die,” wall.

Scene Peek tickets are $30 members and $40 non-members . Join the fun and support RAAC. To order your tickets and for a complete listing of ArtScene venues go to artsforeveryone.com, or call 815-963-6765.
