Klehm Arboretum offers a variety of programs throughout October
On Sunday, October 4 Klehm Arboretum, 2715 S. Main St., will feature Autumn at the Arboretum from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. This annual fall festival will allow guests to experience the beauty of fall as they use the entire 155 acre property for family-friendly fun.
October is one of the best times to witness trees with their rich autumn colors. Attendees can build a scarecrow, enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, make a fall craft to take home, and enjoy entertainment and activities for kids of all ages.
On Friday, October 9 Klehm will host the rescheduled Wine Tasting & Luminary Walk from 7-9 p.m. This event will have an evening wine tasting, provided by DC Estate Winery, in the Fountain Garden and twinkling lights, light hors d’oeuvres and live music complete the evening.
The Olive Oil Experience will provide an array of gourmet oils to sample. Music by provided by Echo Beach and there will also be a raffle. If the weather does not cooperate this time the event will be moved inside. Admission is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
Hiking for Hounds takes place on Sunday, October 18 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Bring your costumed canine friends to spend a day enjoying and exploring the entire 155 acres of gardens and grounds. At 1 p.m. dog owners are encouraged to enter their furry friends into a costume contest.
Prizes will be awarded and everyone will be able to take home good memories and pictures. In addition, there will be vendors with pet-friendly products to visit and an adoption event featuring local advocacy organizations. For those looking to adopt a dog there will be plenty looking for forever homes that day.
The categories for the costume contest are: Cutest, Funniest, Most Creative, Scariest, Best Impersonation of Another Animal and Best Owner/Pet Costume Combo. Original, homemade costumes are encouraged. The event will have half price admission; $3 for adults, $2.00 for seniors, kids and students, and members are free.
