Rockford can be proud of its long heritage as a manufacturing community. There were four major firms in the toy manufacturing industry which are closed today or not actively operating. These firms include: Testor Corp., Carter True Scale, Nylint, and Midgetoy. For the month of October there will be a display of most of the toys produced between the late ’40s and late ’80s.
This display will be located on the third floor of the downtown main branch of the Rockford Public Library. The items on display represent the dedication of local workers and their efforts to produce a quality product. The items in the exhibit are only from Midgetoy which is a division of A & E Tool and Gage Company, Inc. The display includes die cast metal toys, plastic items, plus some of the other items used to make the product.
I encourage everyone to stop by the RPL and see what was made in Rockford and sold all over the world.
