Autumn storms come rolling in

Staff Report

A line of strong thunderstorms is expected to pass through the area this evening, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and even the possibility of a tornado in some parts of the state.

The National Weather Service says that storms current moving through Iowa could bring winds of up to 50 mph to northern Illinois tonight, with the threat of lightning and heavy downpours. A Wind Advisory has been issued for the area from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 p.m. Thursday.

The highest threat of severe weather is expected to fall in areas west of Rockford and surrounding communities, though NWS says there is a chance for “an isolated tornado” in the northern Illinois tonight.
