CSA Chamber Intensive Groups perform the music of Haydn, Beethoven and Shostakovich in recital on Saturday in Room 173 of the NIU Music Building. The recital begins at 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Making their public performance debut will be Provázek Quartet, featuring violinists Chantel Davis and Charlotte Donelson, violist Jacob Rollins and cellist Benjamin Rodriguez. The group will perform music by Beethoven and Shostakovich.
Also on the program, a string trio featuring violinist Christina Ryzhov, violist Sophie Kennedy and cellist Grace Frielink will perform music by Haydn.
The musicians are all students and ensemble members at the NIU Community School of the Arts. Linc Smelser coaches the Chamber Intensive Groups, which include some of the best high school musicians in the region.
Mr. Smelser conducts the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, CSA Youth Sinfonia and Symphonette. He performs regularly with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He teaches cello lessons for the CSA and also teaches at Wheaton College.
