The River District Association is out looking for donations for a new downtown attraction set to premiere at this year’s Stroll on State, “River Lights”.
The first River Lights show, set to music and lighting up the banks of the Rock River, will coincide with the fireworks launch of Stroll, starting at around 7 p.m. The show will continue throughout the holiday season.
“River Lights will illuminate downtown Rockford’s riverbanks in a way the community hasn’t experienced before. Imagine a laser light show, choreographed to music, that is set against the backdrop of the riverfront and our downtown cityscape,” said John Groh, President and CEO of the Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The cost of the installation on a permanent basis is quoted as approximately $150,000. RDA will giving away a pair of tickets to Dec. 13’s Bears vs. Redskins game at Soldier Field to anyone who makes at least a $25 donation via their website.
The winners will be announced at RDA’s Holiday Mixer, Dec. 2.
