Womanspace will be offering its final Stretching & Strengthening class of 2015 on Monday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. The class will take place at Womanspace, located at 3333 Maria Linden Road.
Working on strength and stretching is an excellent way to improve balance and help avoid unintentional falls especially for people ages 45 and older, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
As well, slippery winter conditions exacerbate the risk of falls and injury, but with proper exercises, the brain-body connection can be strengthened and balance maintained throughout the aging process.
Womanspace offers Stretching & Strengthening with AFAA certified personal trainer Cathie Everson. Classes focus on core stability and balance as well as upper & lower body toning using a variety of exercise practices such as foam rolling, pilates, yoga, bands, and more. The classes mix up the activities to keep things new and help sharpen the proprioceptive system, which is the complex system governing balance.
“The old saying, ‘use it or lose it’ really rings true when it comes to balance,” says Everson. “By strengthening our core and balance center while working our brain-body connection, we are able to avoid those injuries that can have serious consequences as we age.”
