The Burpee Museum, 737 N. Main St., will be hosting New Year Around the World on December 31 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
The event will feature traditional artifacts used in celebrations as well as the chance to discover animals from the far reaches of the world. These artifacts and animals are seldom seen and are from the Burpee Museum’s Permanent Collection.
Attendees can learn about New Year’s traditions of Rockford’s Sister Cities along with several other local ethnic groups who will have displays of the culture and geography of their countries such as Italy, Romania, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Ireland, Poland, Russia (Belarus), Serbia, Greece, Sweden, Germany, France, Laos, and Myanmar (Burma), along with Hispanic and Middle Eastern cultures.
There will be hourly countdowns and parades through the museum, celebrating the arrival of 2016 from Singapore to Kenya and performances from groups such as the 2nd Company of the Rockford Dance Company, Krakowiaczek Polish Dancers, Serbian Group, Swedish Historical Lucia Choir, and the Native American Awareness Committee.
Admission to the event is included in general admission, which is $8 for adults and $7 for children.
