Rock River Disposal Christmas tree collection

Staff Report

Rock River Disposal will be collecting Christmas trees from City of Rockford residents from Monday-Thursday on their normally scheduled garbage pick-up day. Non-bagged trees should be placed alongside resident’s regular garbage and all ornaments, stands, lights and other decorations should be removed prior to placement.

Residents may also dispose of any remaining landscaping waste along with their Christmas trees if in proper containers. Landscaping waste will only be accepted in 2-ply biodegradable paper bags or in normal garbage cans clearly marked with a large “X” that is visible from the street. Branches and limbs can be bundled with string or twine, but not wire, and placed for collection as long as the bundles do not exceed four feet in length and two feet in diameter. All bags, cans or bundles cannot exceed the 50 pound weight limit.

In addition to this collection, Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful has arranged 13 regional sites for Christmas tree collection in Winnebago County and one in Boone County for residents to drop off trees through Thursday. Collected trees will be recycled into mulch which can then be retrieved by residents at each collection site for personal use. For a full list of drop-off locations and hours visit knib.org/programs/christmas-tree-recycling.
