Mendelssohn extends deadline for scholarship competition

Due to a large amount of last minute submissions, Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center is extending the deadline for submissions for the Chandler Starr Miller Scholarship Competition. The new deadline for submissions is Monday, all mailed submissions must be postmarked by January 18.

MPAC’s CSM Scholarship Competition is open to students from third grade through college and includes 12 different instrument divisions. Students are reviewed by professional musicians who offer a written assessment that the students can go over with their instructors. Winners are selected from each of the 12 divisions and receive a monetary award. Each winner also has the opportunity to perform in the Winners’ Recital at Mendelssohn Hall. The recital is open to the public.

The competition will take place Saturday, February 20 on the Mendelssohn campus at 406 N. Main St. The Winners’ Recital will be Sunday, February 21 at the same location. Competition rules and registration information can be found at mendelssohnpac.org under Youth Education & Programming. Registrations are accepted electronically or in person through Monday between the business hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
