Composer Catherine McMichael will be visiting The Music Academy of Rockford on Saturday, January 23. McMichael is a composer from Saginaw, Michigan known for her programmatic and appealing works.
The Music Academy piano and string ensembles will be performing a concert including works by McMichael on January 23 at 11 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church Sanctuary, 225 S. 3rd St. McMichael will discuss the inspirations for and interpretations of several of the compositions being performed. The concert is free and open to the public.
Selections for the concert will include “Hot Strings,”, commissioned by The Music Academy to mark its 30th anniversary after being celebrated throughout the 2015-2016 school year. “Hot Strings” will be performed by three string orchestras of The Music Academy along with string students from East High School and McMichael will conduct.
