Cold, electrical failure to blame for late cancellation: RPS

Staff Report

Rockford Public Schools says that a late cancellation decision Tuesday morning was forced due to an electrical failure in their engine warming system.

“While staff tried for several hours to get buses started this morning, more than a third of our bus fleet was exposed to the extreme cold and wouldn’t start, despite every effort,” RPS said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, this also delayed our notification process. Ideally we will notify RPS 205 families, staff and the community between 5:30 and 6 a.m. at the latest of any school closures or cancellations because of weather or weather-related issues.”
