Patsy Cline musical arrives at Monroe Arts Center

Staff Report

The musical A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline moves into the area with its first show on Saturday, March 12 at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th Street, in Monroe, Wisconsin. This performance traces the late star’s life from her early days and radio fame through her rise at the Grand Ole Opry and beyond.

A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline was written and created by Dean Regan and reveals the depth and range of Cline’s crossover talent by topping country, blues, pop and gospel charts simultaneously in the 1950s and early 1960s. This show is produced by Springer Theatricals and the Springer Opera House which is the official State Theatre of Georgia, located in downtown Columbus. This musical won the Best New Show Award when it premiered in Branson, Missouri in 1995 and has enjoyed praise during its inaugural 36-city North American tour.

This musical features singer and actress Sandia Ahlers, who sings 22 of Cline’s greatest hits throughout the performance. Ahlers previous appeared at Monroe Arts Center in April 2014 when she played Ramona Juracko in the national tour of Della’s Diner.

“A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline is one of the warmest, happiest shows any theatre is ever likely to present.  There are still a lot of folks out there who have no idea what an all-round musical stylist Patsy really was,” said Springer Theatricals artistic director Paul R. Pierce. “Small wonder that this show has created so many new Patsy fans – especially among young people who are just discovering the soul and spirit of this great American artist.”

Reserved tickets for this show are $20-25 and $10 for students 18 and under. Tickets are available through the Monroe Arts Center box office at 1315 11th Street in Monroe, by calling 608-325-5700 or 888-596-1249, or can be ordered online at monroeartscenter.com.
