Tinker Swiss Cottage, 411 Kent Street, will be holding a workshop to help teach people how to safely preserve their silver items on March 5 at 1 p.m. The workshop will focus on teaching proper silver methods while using simple techniques and materials. “It is so important to learn how to clean the object correctly to ensure its preservation for years to come,” said Alix Fox, Director of Education and Collections at Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum and Gardens.
“Silver collections can be a tricky item to care for. While they bring years and even generations of enjoyment, they can tarnish quickly if not properly maintained,” said Fox.
Those attending should come prepared with one small to medium sized silver piece to clean and be prepared to get their hands dirty. All materials are included in the cost of the workshop. The cost for the workshop is $40 for non-members and $35 for Tinker Swiss members. New members can register for the workshop for $15 with the purchase of a membership of individual, family or donor level.
Space for the workshop is limited to the first 20 people and registration can be done by calling Tinker Swiss Cottage at 815-964-2424 or visit tinkercottage.com.
