Ethnic Heritage Museum honors Dola Gregory
On Sunday, March 6 the Ethnic Heritage Museum will honor Rockford’s Dola Gregory as Irish Gallery Woman of the Year. This award is given each year to a citizen who exemplifies community involvement through volunteering, dedication to the church, and family and community service. Her exhibit will remain on display through April. This event is free to the public but donations to the museum are always welcome. The museum is open from 2-4 p.m. for tours on March 6 and the program to honor Dola begins at 3 p.m. in the Lockwood Gallery of the museum.
Gregory became a licensed minister in 1995 and in 1997 was ordained minister of Full Gospel Fellowship International Church. She opened Rock House Ministries in 1999 as a place for children to gather for support, food and a safe environment. Soon afterward she opened Rock House Kids which offers free tutoring, hot meals, therapy dogs, dance, manners classes and Bible study.
Gregory has received several awards including the Citizen Award from WQFL/WGSI in 2009, the Boy Scouts of America Prestigious Award Champions of Youth in 2013, and the YWCA Mentorship Award in 2014.
