IceHogs’ Ross charged under ‘Revenge Porn’ law

Staff Report

garret_rossGarret Ross, a 23-year-old Blackhawks prospect currently with the IceHogs, has been charged with “non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images,” a Class 4 felony.

According to the charges filed in DeKalb County, Ross shared images of a woman “engaged in a sexual act, which was obtained under circumstances which Ross should have known the image was to remain private.”

Commonly referred to as the “Revenge Porn” law, the state’s statute went into effect July of 2015. The incident involving Ross took place in August 2015. The charges carry a penalty up to three years in jail.

A second teammate named in the complaint has not been charged at this time. Sycamore Police said that there was not enough information to charge the unnamed player.

“Garret’s been excused from practice for a few days and we’ll take it from there” said IceHogs head coach Ted Dent. “It’s a day-to-day thing and we’ll go from there.”

Ross was a scratch for the weekend’s games in what was called a “coach’s decision.”
