Ogle County holds electronic recycling events

The Ogle County Solid Waste Management Department (OCSWMD) will be holding two electronics recycling drop-off events this month at the Ogle County annex building, 909 W. Pines Road, in Oregon. The first event will be Saturday, April 16 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and the second will be Friday, April 29 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

These recycling events are for Ogle County residents only. Items accepted for recycling at these events include televisions, computer hardware, monitors, printers, copiers, fax machines, shredders, computer cable, cell phones, laptops, tablets, DVD/VCR’s, stereo equipment, radios, phone systems, video game equipment, UPS devices, rechargeable batteries, CFL bulbs, printer cartridges, and microwave ovens. There will be a $5 charge for each microwave oven brought in for recycling. For a full list of items accepted at these events visit oglecounty.org.

Vacuum cleaners, appliances, humidifiers/dehumidifiers, coffee makers, fryers/grills, power tools, yard tools, fans, light fixtures, alkaline batteries, and packing such as boxes, Styrofoam, and plastic packing material are all not accepted.

There will be OCSWMD staff and volunteers available to assist with unloading of electronics, The events will also have information available on recycling and waste disposal. There will also be reusable shopping bags on sale at the events for $1, or a bag of six for $5.
