From the Rockford Area Arts Council
The Rockford Area Arts Council and its Board of Directors awarded the 2016 Community Arts Access Grants at their Board of Directors meeting on April 7 at the Rockford Park District Webbs Norman Center. The grants are made possible in part by the Illinois Arts Council Agency, City of Rockford and a grant from The Blazer Foundation. The Rockford Area Arts Council awarded nearly $18,000 in grants to artists, arts organizations and community groups. This year over 20 organizations and individuals will receive grants.
“The Rockford Area Arts Council’s 2016 Community Arts Access Grant (supported by the City of Rockford and the Illinois Arts Council) awarded to Natural Land Institute for the Art in Nature program will help NLI reach an underserved minority population of 135 students from Lathrop Elementary and RESA Middle Schools through art, writing and the science of trees and other plants. It teaches them how to observe the natural world and express themselves by drawing what they see and writing about what they experience while at Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden.” Kim Johnsen, Natural Land Institute
Community Arts Access Grants: Grants were awarded in amounts up to $1,200 to artists and community non-profit organizations for projects which increase access to the arts for underserved people and/or increase the visibility of the arts for people in Boone, DeKalb, Ogle, and Winnebago counties.
