Rockford Area Arts Council offers Community Art Cart

Staff Report

20160420_135214The Rockford Area Arts Council will offer a Community Art Cart at their office located at 713 E. State Street. The Community Art Cart is a creative reuse project where people can drop off art supplies they don’t need and perhaps also find something they do need to take in exchange. RAAC believes these carts can operate in several locations such as museums, libraries, coffee shops, community centers, or even front yards.

The Community Art Cart was founded in 2015 by artist and cultural historian Joanna Dowling. Dowling was the curator of the Poplar Grove Vintage Wings and Wheels Museum and is the current creative director of the Vintage Wanderer, the Museum’s new boutique dedicated to inspiring the spirit of exploration through locally sourced vintage, repurposed and handmade goods. The Museum is also the home of the Community Art Cart’s pilot cart which can be seen daily, Wednesday through Sunday. For more information on the Community Art Cart visit communityartcart.org.

The Rockford Area Arts Council supports, promotes and celebrates the arts for everyone in northern Illinois. For more information on RAAC visit artsforeveryone.com.
