Entries on sale for Great Golf Ball Drop

Entries are now on sale for the 10th annual Great Golf Ball Drop which will be held on Friday, May 13, at 5 p.m., at Elliot Golf Course, 888 S. Lyford Rd., Cherry Valley. Proceeds from the Great Golf Ball Drop will benefit The First Tee of Greater Rockford, an outreach program of the Rockford Park District.

For the Great Golf Ball Drop a group of numbered golf balls will be dropped from a lift hovering over a pre-selected hole at Elliot Golf Course. The first purchased golf ball that goes in each prize hole, or the one closest to each prize hole, wins. For a complete list of rules visit golfrockford.org/playday.

Entry into the Golf Ball Drop is $5 per ball, or five for $20. Participants will be assigned a numbered golf ball(s) based on their purchase, and may enter multiple times; winners need not be present at the event to win.

Tickets may be purchased at the following locations: online at rockfordparkdistrict.org/gbdrop; Aldeen, Elliot, Ingersoll, Sandy Hollow, and Sinnissippi Rockford Park District’s golf courses; Rockford Park District’s Customer Service locations at Webbs Norman Center, 401 S. Main St., and Carlson Ice Arena, Perryville and Riverside, Loves Park; by mail using the form on the website; and at the Fore the Kids Golf Playday on May 13 at Elliot Golf Course (until noon).

Prizes for the winners of the Golf Ball Drop include: a $2,500 grand prize; a 50-inch Samsung LED TV ($1,000 value); a Rockford Park District 2016 Eagle (4-course) golf membership ($690 value); Four Magic Waters Waterpark season passes for 2016 (one prize, four passes for one person); and a Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens family membership ($100 value).

Also taking place on Friday, May 13 is the Fore the Kids Golf Play Day, also taking place at Elliot Golf Course. Registration and lunch prior to the Play Day begins at 11 a.m. and there’s a shotgun start for the golf at noon.

The cost for the Fore the Kids Golf Play Day is $100 per golfer ($400 per team); includes green fees and cart, tee gift, lunch, and dinner served at the clubhouse following the event. Proceeds benefit The First Tee of Greater Rockford, an outreach program of the Rockford Park District.

No metal cleats are allowed on the course. If golf is cancelled due to inclement weather, golf certificates will be issued.
