Womanspace, whose seven-acre campus contains the largest labyrinth in northern Illinois, will be holding an event on Saturday, May 7 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to celebrate the 8th annual World Labyrinth Day. The celebrate will include a short presentation followed by a dance performance on the labyrinth by local dancers Megan and Caitlin Baylor, then a group labyrinth walk.
Labyrinths have long been used for fertility rituals, symbolic pilgrimages, and spiritual practice. They can be found in various modern day environments such as campuses in Silicon Valley where Google has two for employees in Mountain View, California, and Electronic Arts has one in Redwood City, California. Churches are also building labyrinths as an alternative way to facilitate spiritual practice.
