DeKalb County: 18th Biking with Beanzie Bicycle Ride on July 17

Pull out your map, mark your calendar and get registered for the 18th Biking with Beanzie Bicycle Ride.

Sixty miles west of Chicago and 30 miles southeast of Rockford, the city of DeKalb is the home of a summer biking adventure. Founded in 1969, the Kishwaukee Kiwanis Club of DeKalb presents its 18th Biking with Beanzie Bicycle Ride on Sunday, July 17. The Beanzie ride is co-sponsored by KishHealth System, now part of Northwestern Medicine.

Beanzie is a family friendly, recreational ride with varying distances to suit the novice to the experienced rider. The Beanzie ride is well organized and supported by Kishwaukee Kiwanis, our local Kiwanis Family (the Key Club and the AKtion Club) and partnering service groups (4-H and the DeKalb HS Honor Society). For several years, Kishwaukee Kiwanis also has partnered with the Rescue Rider Motorcyclists and the Wild Roses of Women on Wheels for a portion of the SAG support.

Participants are encouraged to register early:  either online or by mail. Registration also is available for walk-ups the day of the event. You can choose a road ride of approximately 23, 43, 63, 80 or 101 miles with well-marked directional and humorous signage throughout. Registration includes cue sheets for the routes, a number of rest stops with refreshments, SAG Support (Support ‘n Gear), a Beanzie t-shirt (guaranteed with preregistration only), post-ride access to showers, and tasty food options.

For the novice or younger families, off-road routes are offered that follow a local bike pathway. Distances of 3, 5 and 8 miles can be chosen on the bike pathways with the cost of $10.

Biking with Beanzie invites you to tour the beauty of DeKalb County’s back roads on a summer Sunday morning. Register now at Active.com  ($3.25 courtesy fee) or visit the club website for more information: KishKiwanis.org/BWB-general-info/
