The Mt. Morris Jamboree will begin its fifth annual free concert series tonight with local artist Lyle Grobe and the Rhythm Ramblers. This group has appeared in all four previous Friday Concert seasons. The concert will take place at S. Wesley Ave. and Front St., two blocks south of Route 64 in Mt. Morris.
Grobe began performing in the 1950s with brothers Harry and Richard Hackbarth. They have appeared in many shows over the years in the Lee County area. In the late ’50s they began moving into the Ogle County area at such venues as Castle Rock Bar in Oregon.
The group features lead guitarist, Frank Evans, from Sterling; Dennis Milby from Sterling, Marvin Kunde on bass; female singer, Lisa Allen-Grobe; and Jim Miller on keyboard, harmonica, banjo and singing.
The show begins at 7 p.m. and is free to the public with any donations being optional. Concessions will be available provided by the Mt. Morris Community Women’s Club, who will be serving hamburgers, barbecue, chips, fruit and cookies starting at 6 p.m. Also tonight will be the Mt. Morris Community Farmers Market held in the area next to Rockford Bell Credit Union on Main St., one block south of Route 64, from 4-7 p.m.
