Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful holds Medication Collection
Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful will be holding its Medication Collection on Saturday at four locations: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Machesney Town Center, south parking lot, 8750 N. Second St., in Machesney Park; 9 a.m.-noon at Winnebago Rockford Health Physicians, 102 Landmark Dr., in Winnebago; 9 a.m.-noon at the South Beloit Fire Department, 429 Gardner Street, in South Beloit; and 9 a.m.-noon at Belvidere Township Offices, 8200 Fairgrounds Road, in Belvidere.
During this event more than 1,600 area households are expected to drop off unwanted or expired medications. Volunteers from Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful, University of Illinois College of Pharmacy at Rockford, Winnebago Village Trustees, Swedish American, MercyHealth, OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Belvidere Township, Boone County Soil and Water Conservation District, South Beloit Fire Department, Winnebago County Health Department, and other pharmacy volunteers will be on hand.
The purpose of this event is to help prevent accidental poisoning of children and pets, reduce addiction from improper drug use or sharing, keeping hazardous materials out of wastewater, and prevent pollution of drinking water.
Prescription, over-the-counter and veterinary medications, liquids, creams, ointments, inhalers and mercury-filled thermometers will be accepted at each site. It is preferred that items are in original packaging; black out personal information. The following items will not be accepted: needles, sharps, illegal drugs or bio-hazardous materials.
