River District 12 inaugural bike tour, Saturday

The first annual River District 12 Bike Tour, comes to Rockford, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Saturday. River District 12, sponsored by the River District Association, is a 12-hour bike tour designed to promote bike safety and awareness, provide a bike view of the River District, and build the community’s foundation.

With five checkpoints comprising a 4.5-mile loop, participants ride the course with the intention of accumulating the most miles possible. The course will include eight bonus-checkpoints, which will be held in a staggered arrangement, and if completed will award you with the credit of two extra laps (9-miles) each.

Bonus-checkpoints include a physical task, beautification of the neighborhood or a bike safety course. Riders are welcome to ride for the full 12 hours but it’s not necessary – they can simply “hang out” at a checkpoint or the start/finish line and enjoy the festivities

The event has two basic categories; solo or team (2-6 people). The entry fee is $20 per rider (cash or check) at Namaste Studios, 223 E. State St. from 3:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, or $23 per rider online at riverdistrict12.com. There will be no event day registration.
