ComEd says power has been restored for most locations in the Rockford area following a lengthy outage Wednesday morning.
Businesses and offices closed doors for the day as ComEd originally planned on power being restored sometime this afternoon. A powerful overnight storm knocked out services for roughly 2,400 locations in Rockford.
Two Human Services offices, 555 N. Court St. and 612 N. Church St., reported problems with their phone lines due to the outage.
The Discovery Center closed this morning as a result of the outage, as did the Rockford Municipal Employees Credit Union at 634 N. Church St.
And RPS 205 officials have cancelled summer school classes at Roosevelt High School.
Stoplights throughout downtown will remain out of service during the day even as power is restored to the area. Drivers should take caution and remember to treat such intersections as a four-way stop.
Around 700-800 locations in Rockford remain without power as of 11 a.m.
