Rivets score late, beat Green Bay 4-3
$3 beers for Thirsty Thursday at the stadium tonight
The Rockford Rivets took advantage of a strong starting effort from Tyler Thornton to hold off the Green Bay offense, then rallied late against the Bullfrogs’ bullpen for a 4-3 win Wednesday at Rivets Stadium.
Thornton scattered six hits, struck out four and walked one over five scoreless innings in a no-decision. The Tennessee Wesleyan righthander stranded six runners, three of them in his final inning of work.
The Rivets broke a 1-1 tie with three runs off the Green Bay bullpen in the seventh inning, courtesy of a pair of Missouri State University players. Matt Gunter was lifted with the bases loaded and one out. Jeremy Graf came on to pitch and allowed all three runners to score, one on a Jordan Hovey groundout and two on a Hunter Steinmetz single to left field.
Rockford reliever Anthony Dahl lost a 1-0 lead inherited from Thornton when Laren Eustace rounded the bases in the seventh after an outfield collision, but wound up the pitcher of record.
Dahl gave up two runs, but struck out six over three innings for the win. Zach Olszewski gave up a run in the ninth inning on a Marcus Shoemaker sacrifice fly, but stranded the possible tying run and picked up his fourth save.
The Rivets face The Green Bay Bullfrogs at Rivets Stadium 6:35 p.m. Thursday. On Thirsty Thursdays, beer is just $3.
