NAMI seeks golfers, sponsors for scramble
The National Alliance on Mental Illness Northern Illinois office is sponsoring an Olympics-themed golf scramble on Monday, Sept. 12. The scramble will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Forest Hills Country Club, 5135 Forest Hills Road.
We are in search of sponsors and golfers to help up raise money for our outreach funds. These funds assist us in giving free education, support, and advocacy to those that are impacted by mental illness. These funds also aid us in our mission of stamping out the stigma placed on those that are struggling. You may assist us by simply golfing at $135 a person or by sponsoring a golf hole: Bronze – $50, Silver – $100, and Gold – $150. Any sponsors will be acknowledged as a sign of appreciation on the golf course, our website, and in our newsletter.
Mental health is important at every stage of life. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Unfortunately, in our world mental illness is as common as physical illness. Every year, mental illness affects 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 5 children.
Out of those individuals, 60 percent of the adults and 50 percent of the children never receive the care or support that they need. With the lack of care and funding, along with the excessive amount of shame placed on those struggling with their mental health, these illnesses can lead to homelessness, imprisonment, physical medical conditions, and suicide.
