The Rockford Symphony Orchestra is set for its Opening Night performance, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Coronado Performing Arts Center.
The RSO’s first classic performance will include the artistry of pianist Awadagin Pratt performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.3. Pratt is acclaimed for his musical insight and intensely involving performances in recital and with symphony orchestras. Additionally two other works of Beethoven will be featured including, Leonore Overture No. 3 and Symphony No. 3.
On Friday Sept. 30, Music Director Steven Larsen will conduct an informal and enlightening discussion with guest artist Awadagin Pratt during RSO’s regular lecture program called, “Sound Bites”.
SoundBites is held at Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club prior to each classics performance in the 2016-17 season SoundBites is a free event. Individuals can purchase lunch, RSVPs are recommended by email or by calling 815-965-0049.
RSO Maestro Steven Larsen introduces the audience to background information on composers and musical selections in a lecture at 6:30 p.m. one-hour prior to the Classics Concert performances. The lecture is free to all ticket holders.
