‘Spook the Blocks’ trick-or-treating comes to downtown, Saturday

The River District Association (RDA) announces a fun-filled, family-friendly trick-or-treating event in downtown Rockford. Playing on the popular Shop the Blocks events of the past two summers this year it will be called “Spook the Blocks.” On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. we’re calling all princesses and fairies, all ghosts and goblins, all superheroes and supervillains. Halloween is almost here and trick-or-treating is in the air! This free event encourages everyone to dress up and come downtown for an evening of strolling, or spooking, our blocks while visiting restaurants, shops and galleries for a treat. Costumes are encouraged!

“During last year’s event there was a presence and feeling in downtown Rockford like we haven’t seen in many years when hundreds of kids with their families came to trick-or-treat on our blocks,” said Leah Tuneberg, Executive Director. “It’s wonderful when you know you’ve had an impact on creating memories for a child and a tradition for a family. Furthermore, many business owners were pleased with the overwhelming turnout and even commented on how they had to ‘go on a candy run’ multiple times during the event.”

Participating businesses will be designated by an orange pumpkin poster in their front window and that is how people will know where the treats are! We ask that children be accompanied by an adult/parent or guardian at all times! Don’t forget to tell your friends & family. A sample list of participants is available at riverdistrict.com.
