RVC bridge building competition highlights Career and Technical Education Month
In recognition of Career and Technical Education Month, Rock Valley College will host its annual Bridge Building Competition for high school students on Tuesday, Feb. 28 in the Woodward Technology Center (WTC) lobby on the college’s main campus, 3301 N. Mulford Road.
Each team will have one hour to design and build a freestanding bridge, which meets specific requirements. The bridges will then be tested to failure. Bridges must be freestanding with two side trusses and connecting members. Teams may use only the wood building materials that are supplied. The team with the bridge that supports the most weight will win the competition.
High schools that have registered to participate so far include: Auburn, Guilford, East, Jefferson, Byron, and Oregon. Schools can bring up to four teams of 3-4 students per team. There is still time for interested schools to register at rockvalleycollege.edu/bridgebuilding.
The first place team members (up to four) will each receive a $500 scholarship to RVC and a tablet. The second place team members (up to four) will each receive a $100 Barnes and Noble gift card.
