Swedes honored for lung cancer care
ROCKFORD – SwedishAmerican is among just a handful of hospitals nationwide to be recognized for its exceptional work in battling lung cancer.
In a statement, the hospital announced it earned re-certification of The Joint Commission’s (TJC) Gold Seal of Approval for Lung Cancer Disease Specific Care (DSC) and is the only hospital in Illinois to receive DSC Certification for Lung Cancer from the TJC.
“TJC’s Gold Seal of Approval is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care,” according to the statement.
SwedishAmerican received its two-year Lung Cancer DSC Certification after undergoing a voluntary and rigorous on-site evaluation, demonstrating compliance with nationally developed standards for lung cancer care.
The Rockford hospital was among the first in the nation to earn DSC Certification for Lung Cancer from the TJC in September 2013, achieving the distinction as a “Lung Cancer Center of Excellence” through its integrated approach to providing world-class lung cancer care.
“This certification is a direct result of the unsurpassed expertise, hard work and commitment by the board-certified physicians, specially trained nurses and other health care professionals who make up the SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center’s Lung Cancer Program,” says Diane Scoville, director of oncology services at SwedishAmerican’s Regional Cancer Center.
“We are in an elite group, since there is one of only nine other DSC Lung Cancer Certified hospitals in the country, and the only program in Illinois to hold certification,” added SwedishAmerican President and CEO Dr. Bill Gorski. “This honor affirms our commitment to the highest level of care for patients with lung cancer.”
