Sing, a Hungarian live action short narrative film showing at this year’s Beloit International Film Festival, took top honors in the live action short category at the Academy Awards presentation on Sunday.
Directed and produced by Kristof Deak, the 25 minute film is being shown at BIFF with the Turkish short, Tables of Istanbul. There is one remaining screening of the films on Saturday, March 4, at 2:30 p.m. at the Hendricks Arts Center at Beloit College.
A parable of defiance against unjust and corrupt authority, it tells the story of a student struggling to fit in at her new school and finding that singing in the school’s famous choir is her only consolation. The choir director may not be the inspirational teacher everyone thinks she is but it will take the student and her friend to uncover the cruel truth and teach their teacher a lesson.
Tickets are available online beloitfilmfest.org or at the BIFF Box Office located at the ABBA Gallery at 437 E. Grand Ave. in Beloit.
