The Rockford Police Department Thursday released figures on its recent Traffic Investigation Unit’s enforcement campaign.
On Wednesday, RPD officers targeted two different areas for motorist violations: Charles Street, from 9th Street to Parkside Drive; and Broadway, from 9th Street to Alpine.
RPD says these targeted programs help “raise awareness of safety-related traffic violations and to reduce the overall number of and severity of crashes in these areas.” The department added that these two roadways had seen an increase in injury-crash severity lately.
Officers were able to conduct 60 traffic stops during the campaign, with the following results:
- 30 Speed-related citations
- 17 Cell phone usage citations
- 5 Insurance violations
- 2 Window tint violations
- 1 Seat belt violation
- 7 Driver’s license violations
The department in a statement said it “will continue to perform safety-related traffic enforcement details and remind drivers to help prevent fatalities and reduce injuries on the roadways by obeying the rules of the road at all times.”
