The Rockford Area Arts Council invites children and youth ages 5-18 to spend this summer being creative through two programs: RAAC Arts Camp, for children ages 5-13, is held at Ellis School. This year there are two sessions: June 5-15 and July 10-20. Campers select three classes to attend daily from 1-4:30 p.m. Choices include: Art, Theater, Singing, Guitar, Video Production, Creative Writing, Rap, Hip-Hop Dance, and Modern Dance.
ArtsPlace is an arts apprenticeship program for youth ages 14-18 with a commitment to improving their artistic skills. ArtsPlace Teams this year are: Dance, Theater, Video Production, and Visual Arts. Youth are mentored by professional artists and create original work which is presented to the public. Proceeds earned from the sales of the work and tickets to the performance are awarded to the youth as stipends. ArtsPlace is a work experience program that is used as a reference for college applications and employment.
RAAC Arts Camp and ArtsPlace are made possible in part through the Illinois Arts Council Agency, the City of Rockford, Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, Rockford School District 205, Alpine Kiwanis and individual donations.
