ROCKFORD — Cliffbreakers Hotel & Conference Center is scheduled to complete its $2.5 million renovation project next year.
Officials aim to finish work in the facility’s banquet and event center early in the first quarter of 2018. Those upgrades include new carpeting, a built-in dance floor and soundproof air walls. The updated features will allow the Cliffbreakers to accommodate to 1,000 people for weddings, conferences and special events.
“This is an incredibly special place to the people in Rockford and we recognize its importance to the city and the impact it can have throughout the community,” said General Manager Andy Bridwell said in a release. “We’re excited about what our team is getting accomplished and I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised with the new direction we’ve taken here.”
Bridwell worked for more than 30 years in the hospitality industry, and specializes in improving quality and service levels of hotel assets in distressed areas. His spent eight years working branded franchise hotels, and has also managed hotels in the Chicago area.
Cliffbreakers’ hotel is also receiving a complete overhaul. Demolition work recently began on the hotel’s third floor and complete restoration to rooms on the hotel’s fourth floor are nearing completion. Work in the hotel to be complete by the second quarter of 2018.
The redevelopment started in June, and is being covered by a city-backed HUD Section 108 loan in the amount of $3 million.
Cliffbreakers is in search of 78 full-time employees to staff its hotel and event once the upgrades are complete. It will host a job fair food Feb. 23-24 for food and beverage applicants.
