DOWNTOWN — Commuters traveling through downtown Thursday morning were greeted with a surprise lane shutdown at a busy intersection.
The two right lanes of N. 2nd St. at Jefferson have been closed for an emergency water main repair, the City of Rockford said. Traffic backed up to the 6th Street interchange as drivers looked for different routes through downtown.
In addition, lanes on Jefferson Street have also been closed as crews work to repair the main. The city says it expects repairs to take 1-3 business days and drivers should seek alternate routes to avoid the area.
Any questions should be referred to the Public Works Water Maintenance Division at 779-348-7153. R.
