Preps: Jefferson tops Boylan; Harlem edges Hononegah

ROCKFORD – The Jefferson J-Hawks rallied from 11 points down in the third quarter to beat Boylan 58-56 in NIC-10 Conference boys basketball at Jefferson Friday.
The J-Hawks raced out to a 14-4 lead in the first quarter. Junior point guard George Williams, though, picked up his second foul at the end of the first quarter on a charging call.
Without Williams to organize the offense, Boylan went on a big run to take a 32-22 lead into halftime. The J-Hawks answered with a run of their own in the third quarter behind George Williams, who scored six of his 10 points in the third, and LaJuan Morris, who scored six of in the quarter.
Latrelle Graham kept the run going in the fourth with seven of his 15 points. Johnny Close kept Boylan in it though. Close scored a game-high 22 points, including hitting three fourth-quarter 3-pointers.
Boylan had a shot to tie with 2.5 seconds left, but the Titans missed a layup on a lob play as time expired. The balanced J-Hawks also got 10 big points from junior Mike Bankole. The J-Hawks improved to 3-1 in the NIC-10 and 6-2 overall. Jefferson’s only losses are to undefeated East and Indiana power Indianapolis Pike.
In other NIC-10 action, David Williams (15 points) and Bryson Thomas (12) scored in double figures as the Harlem Huskies squeaked by Hononegah 52-50 Friday. Jarrett Strate-Lutzlow scored 14 points for the Indians. R.
