ROCKFORD – The group of investors that wants to build a casino on the far-east side will host a grand opening of the Hard Rock Casino Rockford Information Center Thursday at 308 W. State St.

The center will be on the corner of West State and South Main streets, in the space most recently occupied by Capital House restaurant, which closed three weeks ago.

The event, also a Rockford Day celebration, begins at 1 p.m., and includes appearances by Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen, an investor in the potential project, and his family.

The public is welcome to take pictures with Nielsen and sons, singer-songwriter Miles Nielsen, and Cheap Trick drummer Daxx Nielsen. There will be free Hard Rock Casino Rockford T-shirts and other memorabilia while supplies last.

The group, which also includes Ringland-Johnson CEO Brent Johnson, purchased the 21-acre Clock Tower property for $3.6 million in 2017. Intentions to build a Hard Rock Casino on the site were announced last month.

Wisconsin developer Gorman & Co. is expected to submit a proposal  to bring a casino downtown, near the under-construction Embassy Suites.
