Loves Park police chief to retire Feb. 2

Loves Park Police Chief James Puckett has formally announced his intention to retire Feb. 2, 2014.
Puckett has been an employee of the City of Loves Park since 1978, when he was hired as a patrol officer. During his career, he has served as a detective, sergeant, deputy police chief and chief.
From Loves Park, Puckett will assume a position under Sheriff Dick Meyers as facility security director for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department.
The department has recommended Deputy Police Chief Rodney Scott to replace Puckett. Scott has been with the department for several years.
Department officials have also recommended the promotion of Sgt. Charles Lynde to deputy chief.
Both promotions are pending a vote by the Loves Park City Council. If aldermen approve the hires, both officers would be sworn in Monday, Feb. 3.
